PC Game review - Red Faction: Guerrilla review.

An action game on Mars that even Arnie would be impressed by.

To celebrate the release of Red Faction: Armageddon, I've decided to review its predecessor, Red Faction: Guerrilla. Just to start off, I'd like to quickly give a short history of the series. Red Faction, released in 2001, was an excellent game, that has gone down in history as a classic. You should pick it up if you find it cheap. I saw it in a local video games store as a double pack, with Red Faction 2, for $20AUD. As for the aforementioned Red Faction 2, it was atrocious. The voice acting was terrible, and the graphics were worse. It was too difficult, and the difficulty was not worth the effort, as the game wasn't even fun! And there was also a vehicular spin-off called Red Faction: Battlegrounds for Xbox 360 & Playstation 3. I haven't played it, but I've heard that it is awful.

Anyways, this review is not about those two, it is about Guerrilla. Guerrilla is very much like Grand Theft Auto, except on Mars. But don't walk away thinking "not another open world shooter!", because the game is excellent. The missions are diverse and interesting, there are a lot of awesome weapons which can take down a building of any size in a matter of seconds, and many different vehicles. The missions can range from a kidnapping, to demolitions, to a search and rescue. There are rocket launchers, machine guns, rifles, electricity guns, guns that shoot saw blades, laser guns, pistols, and my personal favourite, the nano rifle. It shoots nanites, which disassemble the object in question atom by atom, and it causes major damage, and looks fantastic as well. The vehicles range from buggies, to trucks, to 4 wheel drives, to military cars, to tanks, to giant robotic walkers. It is excellent fun in both singleplayer and multiplayer, and I recommend it to anyone who likes a good third person shooter.

Now, for the scoring.

A bit dated but great nonetheless.

An interesting story with excellent missions and a sense of achievement when you beat a stage.

There is tonnes to do so you can always come back for more..

There are plenty unique game modes that are fun, as well as the classics like deathmatch.
